Aussies keen for

joint ventures

ISLAMABAD: President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari, has said that Australia and Pakistan can further increase trade and economic cooperation in various sectors.

He said this while talking to the out-going High Commissioner of Austral ia Philip Knight who paid a farewell call on him at the Aiwan- e-Sadr here on Wednesday.

The president said that big Australian companies and corporations could have joint ventures in Pakistan in agriculture, agricultural research, energy and mining sectors.

He said Australia and Pakistan could also work together for peace and stability in the region and the world.

He said hoped that Australia would also use its influence for peaceful solution of the Kashmir problems in accordanc e with the United Nations resolutions so that both India and Pakistan could divert their resources to alleviate poverty of about one billion people of South Asia.

Philip Knight thanked the President and the people of Pakistan for co-operat ion and hospitality extended to him during his stay in Pakistan and assured him that Australian businessmen and companies would be very much interested in investment and joint-ventures in Pakistan.-APP
