of software
lags far behind'
LAHORE: The Chairman Senate, Wasim Sajjad on Thursday said the development of software in Pakistan lagged much behind the most conservative countries of the South Asian region.
Inaugurating the first Beacon House Informatics Computer Training Centre in posh locality of Gulberg here, he said there was multi-million dollar software industry in India, of much greater volume than the one existing in Pakistan.
He said that the development of software remained the key factor upon which the entire edifice of computer technology rested.
Sajjad said that there had recently been a growing awareness of the need for high class computer education in Pakistan and institutions were being set up for this purpose.
"This is obviously a step ahead towards expanding the technological base badly needed for the over-all development of the country", he added.
Sajjad said, in developing countries like Pakistan, uplift of human resources was the key towards progress in all fields which alone could lead to alleviation of poverty and in the achievement of living standards comparable to those in the developed countries of the world.
Dr. Wong Tai, Chairman Informatics International Singapore said that his institution had established and maintained ISO-9001 quality certification for the design and provision of their programmes.
He expressed the hoped that their joint venture partner, the Beaconhouse Group would provide the synergy to establish informatic high level IT courses in Pakistan.
