Bombay sugar
prices gain
BOMBAY: Sugar prices rose modestly on improved demand and a diversion of stocks to outside the state of Maharashtra, of which Bombay is the capital, dealers said.
"Some sugar has been diverted to neighbouring states and this has helped local prices firm," said a delaer. "A marginal rise in demand too helped."
Ready sugar S-30 gained 10 rupees to 1,300/1,315 rupees per quintal and M-30 by 8.0 rupees to 1,315/1,348 per quintal.
The free sale sugar quota fixed for April at 660,000 tonnes had also been lower than expected and this turned sentiment firm, said a dealer.-Reuter
