LCCI expresses
concern over
dry port blaze
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Tariq Saigol, President, Lahore Chamber of Commerce & Industry, has expressed deep concern on the horrible fire incident taken place at the Lahore Dry port. In a press statement issued here on Wednesday, he appealed to the government to take necessary measures for compensation of the losses inflicted to the business community in this incident. Saigol also emphasized to conduct the speedy investigation of this accident so as to bring the concerned defaulting elements to book. Saigol urged upon the government to adopt special security measures at the premises like Karachi Port and PIA cargo.
The LCCI President has also set up a special committee to evaluate the losses inflicted to the business community in this incident. The committee headed by Rehmatullah Javed, Convener, LCCI's Standing Committee on Infrastructure with visit the Dry port on Thursday.
FPCCI ZONAL CHIEF
Vice President & Zonal Chairman, Iftikhar Ali Malik, Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry has also expressed concern over the loss of imported raw materials & finished products due to the fire.
He invited the sufferers to inform the Zonal Office of FPCCI, 50-A, Tufail Road, Lahore Cantt., about the losses incurred to them.
The Federation will take-up claim cases with the insurance companies and the Federal Government for the expeditious compensation of the losses or payment of claims.
While commenting on the fire extinguishing arrangements and other facilities available at the dry port, he said that the weaknesses have surfaced at this grave incidence. Not only machinery for handling situation is inadequate but stocking of containers also needs a planning so that in case of such mishap fire extinguishing vehicles and other machinery could rush to the spot without any hindrance. He further suggested that at the storing, segregation of hazardous and non-hazardous material is assured.
