Govt urged to check
yarn export by mills
accused of dumping
RECORDER REPORT
KARACHI: The Chairman of Apparel Manufacturers and Exporters Welfare Forum (AMEWF), Naim Anwar has urged the government to check export of yarn by textile mills penalised by Japan and Taiwan for dumping under the name of those mills which have been exempted.
In a press statement on Monday, he expressed the apprehension that such a practice by the mills would create more problems in future, because if these countries found out they will impose further penalties on Pakistan.
He said that value-added textile sector has been pointing it out for a long time that domestic spinners are exporting cotton at prices lower than prevailing domestic prices, but hue and cry of this sector was not listened to. "Had the spinners listened to their countrymen, they would have been in much-better position now", he said.
He expressed the hope that after this bitter experience, government would listen to all the sectors of the textile industry before making any decision in national interest.
