Elliott named
'Newsweek' Editor
from January
KARACHI: Michael Elliott will succeed Kenneth Auchincloss as Editor of Newsweek International from January 1, 1996, according to a recent announcement by Newsweek Editor Maynard Parker.
Auchincloss will take on a new set of responsibilities as Editor-at-Large for Newsweek's US edition, according to a news release.
In charge of Newsweek's five overseas editions since 1986, "Ken has presided over Newsweek International during a decade of incredible changes abroad, most notably the collapse of communism in the former Soviet Union", said Parker. "And, he has positioned the magazine for the future with substantially strengthened coverage of international business news and technology."
Elliott will relinquish his post as Newsweek's Washington-based Diplomatic Editor in September to work with Auchincloss in New York during the transition period. He joined Newsweek in 1993 after serving as Washington Bureau chief for The Economist.
"Mike's appointment underlines our continuing commitment to Newsweek International", Parker said in making the announcement. "He is idealy suited to lead the magazine into the next century and beyond", he added.
