BOMBAY: Sugar prices forged ahead on hectic consumer demand while supplies remained thin, dealers said.

Ready S-30 climbed 10-20 rupees per quintal (100 kg) to 1,245/1,278 and M-30 made a similar gain to 1,255/1,360 rupees per quintal.

"Buyers turned active on market talk that loaders may go on a day's strike tomorrow," said one dealer.

Sugar mill delivery was steady at 1,175/1,190 rupees per quintal. Trading in mill delivery remained thin and most of the deals were reported for ready delivery today," one broker said.-Reuter
