KARACHI: On the first anniversary of its visa card, Citibank Pakistan claimed there are now 50,000 cardmembers and 5000 merchant establishments are now accepting the Citibank Visa card, making it the widest acceptable card in Pakistan and also in the world with over 13 million establishments, according to a press release. Pakistan has outperformed all of the other countries in the Asia-Pacific region where Citibank issues credit cards currently, said the press release.

Citibank entered Pakistan's credit card market in July 1994. With their aggressive marketing efforts Citibank was successful in not only popularizing the concept of credit cards, but also in capturing the position of market leader in the hertofore untapped credit card industry of Pakistan.
