intervene

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Times workers and employees union has appealed to Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto to immediately intervene in the affairs of the Pakistan Times and help resolve financial crisis of the paper.

The union meeting held here on Sunday, with Abrar Ali Saeed in chair, passed a resolution in which union appealed to the prime minister to help release salaries for the month of June and July.

As per Cabinet decision, the Privatisation Commission (PC) is bound to pay the salaries till the completion of privatisation process but the chairman of the PC, Syed Naveed Qamar has refused to pay the salaries which indicates that he is not bound to abide by Cabinet decision.

The meeting observed that children of the employees of the daily were deprived of their basic rights of getting education because, they failed to deposit their fee.

The meeting noted that on the one hand government was making tall claims that People's government will eradicate illiteracy while on the other children of the most prestigious daily were unable to continue their studies because their parents cannot deposit their fees.-PPI
