Lyari to Iran
border coastal
road project
LAHORE: Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, on Sunday, approved in principle, the construction of the Makran coastal road from Lyari to Iranian border.
Presiding over the meeting of the National Highway Council, a high-powered body of National Highway Authority, at the state guest house here, she also constituted a committee, headed by Deputy Chairman Privatization Commission for evolving modalities to attract private investments in the highway sector after which a package will be announced for the private investors in this sector.
The meeting was attended by Punjab Chief Minister Mian Manzoor Ahmad Wattoo, Balochistan Chief Minister Zulfiqar Magsi, Governor NWFP Maj-Gen. (Retd) Khursheed Ali Khan, Senior Minister Sindh, Pervaiz Ali Shah and other members of the council.
The meeting was apprised that work on first phase of Makran coastal road from Lyari to Mara will be started in January next which will cost Rs. 4 billion. In the next phase, it will be constructed from Mara to Gwadur and then Gwadur to Pasni upto the Iran border.-APP
