HYDERABAD: On the intervention of Sindh Minority MPA Michael Javeed an FIR has been registered against police officers of "B" Section Police Station, Latifabad under section 302 OPC and 34 PPC in the alleged custodial death of Javeed Maseeh who was arrested in an alleged theft case.

A meeting presided over by the deputy commissioner and attended by SSP, ASP Latifabad, SDMs City and Latifabad and the Christian community leaders Michael Javeed, MPA, Sindh assembly Rufin Wilson, Nazeer Maseeh, Younus Gill and others, after a big protest demonstration and a warning to the administration by thousands of agitated and angry Christians including women and children who had surrounded the SSP office and blocked all roads leading to the said office on Saturday, agreed to register cases against the SHO of "B" Section Police Station, Latifabad, Haider Abbas, ASIs Sardar Khan and Azeem Durrani and other policemen who allegedly tortured Javeed Maseeh to death.

The meeting also recommended an adequate compensation to the bereaved family by the Sindh Government and to enrol a brother of the deceased in the police department.

The DC the SSP and MPA Michael also donated Rs 10,000 cash each as funeral expenses. Rs 5,000 were also given to injured Ashiq Maseeh.

Later, the body of the deceased was taken over by the Christian leaders and laid to rest at the Christian graveyard.

After registration of case all the said police officers who have been placed under suspension by the SSP have gone into hiding.

The SHO "A" Section Police Station, Latifabad, Sardar Mengal has been assigned additional charge of "B" Section Police Station. The said SHO, is also involved in an alleged custodial murder of a villager Mashooq Sheedi while he was posted Bhitai Nagar police station.
