HANOI: US Secretary of State Warren Christopher formally opened a United States embassy in the Vietnamese capital on Sunday.

The embassy was opened at 10 a.m. local time (0300 GMT) with the raising of the Stars and Stripes under a steady drizzle at the site of the existing US Liaison Office.-Reuter
