Leghari asks
Punjab to raise
compensation
amount
RAJANPUR: President Farooq Ahmad Khan Leghari has directed the Punjab government to increase the compensation for the bereaved families of the persons killed due to floods and rains to Rs 50,000, bringing it at par with that in the NWFP.
Addressing flood victims near here this afternoon, he said the disparity in death compensation should come to an end.
He suggested declaring of the villages badly affected by floods as calamity-hit areas. "This will help people relieve of the burden of agricultural loans and abiyana", Leghari observed.
He asked Agricultural Bank to generously extend the loan limits to the people especially those affected by the floods and rains.
He said that taqawi loans should be provided to the people living in the far-flung areas like Rajanpur.
Leghari directed to estimate the losses incurred during the floods at the earliest so that these might be compensated accordingly.-APP
