Flood Relief Fund:

Site chief urges

agri sector

to come forward

RECORDER REPORT

KARACHI: Yaqub Karim, President, Site Association of Industry, while assuring the fullest co-operation of the industrialists towards Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund, has urged the agiculture sector, which according to him is enjoying liberty from the income tax net so far, also to come forward with generous support for the flood affected people, mostly belonging to the rural areas.

Commenting on the imposition of import surcharge on all imports items which are subject to sales tax for 6 months to meet relief and rehabilitation requirement of the flood effected peoples Yakub Karim hailed it and showed full sympathy with the flood effected peoples all over the country and said that well-to-do people whould come forward and participate whole heartedly in the Prime Minister's Flood Relief Fund.

He hoped that this will be a transparent scheme and will be only for 6 months and the surcharge to be collected will specifically be used to provide relief to the flood affectees. He added that in the past it had been seen that the funds were mis-appropriated and the cheques were not issued to the deserving people or those which were issued dis-honoured by the banks. He said that this time the government and the agencies should be more conscious and see that this should not be repeated again.

In this regard, he suggested for formation of a committee consisting of sincere and honest citizens from every walk of life under the chairmanship of prime minister. The committee will be responsible to keep a strick check on the funds and see that the needy and deserving people get the financial relief instead of fake and dishonest people.
