Alam expresses
anguish over
KMC's refusal to
take over KIA
KARACHI: Shaikh Manzar Alam, Ex-Chairman, Korangi Association of Trade & Industry, Karachi, and present Chairman of Press & Public Relationing Committee, has expressed great anguish over a news item appearing in a section of the press stating that "K.M.C. has refused to take over the control of K.I.A.", as stipulated in the Sindh Government's notification No. 30-II (KDA)4-172/94, dated 15th September, 1994.
Giving background of the notification issued by the Sindh Government, Alam said that Syed Abdullah Shah, on the occasion of his visit to Korangi Association on 13th August, 1994, had announced that Korangi Industrial Area would be placed under the control of K.M.C. consequently, a meeting was held on 23RD August, 1994, under the Chairmanship of the Chief Secretary, Sindh, where all the heads of civic agencies were present, especially, D.G., K.D.A., Sabahat Ali Khan and administrator, K.M.C. Fahim Zaman Khan. At this meeting, it was decided that "the control of Korangi Industrial Area should be transferred from K.D.A. to K.M.C. with all assets and liabilities and land control".
Manzar Alam asserted that in compliance with the decisions taken at the said meeting, the Sindh Government issued the notification NO. 30-II (KDA) 4-172/94, dated 15th September, 1994.
Expressing astonishment, Manzar Alam was in a fix to understand as to how the administrator K.M.C. could flout and defy instructions of the Chief Minister, Sindh, and the contents of the notification issued by the Sindh Government.
Manzar Alam said, it is all the more surprising that after one year of the issuance of the notification, K.M.C. authorities are refusing to take control of K.I.A., when during this period they have been collecting all municipal taxes from the area.
Manzar Alam urged the Sindh Government and especially Syed Abdullah Shah, Chief Minister, Sindh, to take notice of defiance of his instructions by K.M.C. and take stern action against those who are responsible for flouting the Sindh Government's orders.
