Foundries remain
closed for
second day
RECORDER REPORT
FAISALABAD: Foundries and Light Engineering Units were remained closed on the second day as a mark of protest against the shortage and black marketing of pig iron.
Addressing a protest demonstration, the speakers said over 50 percent foundries were located in Faisalabad have been closed down, because of the raw material's high cost, rendering hundreds of workers jobless.
They pointed out that the pig iron was imported from abroad for 150 to 200 dollars per ton. But it was being sold in the black market locally at rate of Rs. 14,000 to Rs.16,000 per ton.
