Farzana Sultan case

Show Cause notice

issued to

Secretary Health

KARACHI: Tribunal of inquiry constituted to probe charges of alleged rape with Farzana Sultan on Thursday issued show cause notice to Secretary Health, Government of Sindh under sections 174 and 175 of Criminal Procedure Code as the later failed to appoint a chemical examiner and directed him to submit report.

The tribunal comprising District and Session Judge, Karachi West, Miss Mahjabeen had directed Sindh Health Secretary to arrange a competent chemical examiner who could prepare a chemical report.

However, no one appeared before the tribunal from Health Department on Thursday nor any intimation about appointment of chemical examiner was sent.

Dr Zahid Hussain appointed by Sindh Government submitting chemical report, on last date pleaded that he was only a clinical pathalogist and not forensic expert therefore, could not prepare and submit a chemical report.

The MQM had alleged that a PPP advisory councillor along with his companion had gang-raped Farzana Sultan 16 year old sister of MQM activist Feroaz at her residence in Gharibabad, District Central, Karachi on June 22, 1995. However, the councillor refuted MQM allegations and the government formed inquiry tribunal to probe charges of alleged rape. Neither complainant Farzana Sultan nor any witness form the public has so far appeared before the tribunal to depose voluntarily, though it has been holding its proceedings regularly since its formation.-PPI
