Body set up to

watch plight of

women in

police custody

LAHORE: An NGO, Aurat Foundation, has decided to form a 'Central Watchdog Committee' to help those women who are exposed to violence in police custody.

This was decided in a meeting on Thursday which was attended by about 10 NGOs besides some female political workers.

The meeting was presided by senior journalist and the President of Human Rights Commission Pakistan, I.A. Rehman. Women activist Mehnaz Rafi was also present on the occasion.

The meeting expressed concern over the growing incidence of crimes against women held in police cutody. After various propositions it was decided that a committee which would comprise political workers, NGOs, and female government servants be formed shortly to watch the welfare of women in police custody.-APP
