Faisalabad traders
stage hunger strike
in-front of
Punjab Assembly
LAHORE: In order to keep intact the on-going momentum of hunger strike of traders community, Anjuman-e-Tajraan Faisalabad staged a hunger strike infront of Punjab Assembly at Faisal Chowk, here on Tuesday.
The traders led by Convenor Anjuman-e-Tajraan Punjab (Faisalabad zone) Kh. Islam MPA vowed to keep their struggle on to press the Government for the acceptance of their demands regarding elimination of form 'A' from the taxation system and exemption of wealth tax from one shop and one house.
Kh. M. Islam said that traders were the only community, which were providing revenue worth billions of rupees to the Government exchequer while all of the remaining sectors including public and agriculture sectors were just utilizing the public exchequer. He said that traders were provided many facilities in foreign countries, but in Pakistan they were always pressed to squeeze maximum taxes, which was a major cause of the downfall of industry and trade.
He alleged that during the present Government regime export of the country had decreased to an alarming extend and a number of factories have been closed down which have resulted in the umemploymnt of lakhs of labourers.
The other representatives of traders from Faisalabad said that they had extended their full cooperation to fight against the suppressing modus operandi of the Government against traders and they were ready to keep their shutters down even once in a week to press the Government for the acceptance of their demands.
They further said that there was an exemption of wealth tax upon a Pajero jeep and a haveli from a zamindar, who possessed 25 acres of land while traders were not exempted from wealth tax upon a shop a house and a 800 cc car, which were their basic needs.-PPI
