LAHORE: Brisk buying activity was observed with high turnover at Akbari Mandi in commodities other than sugar.

However, there was some element of uncertainty in the sugar sector because of delay in a decision between Punjab government and the federal government.

Traders were double-minded and unwilling to buy sugar from any other province because of the uncertainty in the market, especially following information that federal government was launching raids on the stocks of other commodities, too.

Market has been left with only 20 percent of its capacity of sugar. Now Lahoriites are using Sindh sugar because Punjab sugar mills had been sealed about 12 days back, sugar dealers said. It can only be hoped that this situation does not prolong as trading cannot be conducted in a state full of fear.

Since manipulators stayed on sideline, there was no fluctuation, the rates of commodities and rice, kariana oils, and pulses stayed firm.
