ADB offers

financial help to

Wapda for water,

power projects

LAHORE: Asian Development Bank (ADB) has offered to provide cooperation to Wapda in matters relating to the financing of water and power development projects which are economically and technically feasible.

This indication was given by ADB Vice President Bong Sue Lee during a meeting with Chairman Wapda Shamsul Mulk in Wapda House on Monday afternoon. Member (Water) Khalid Mohtadullah and Member (Finance) Javed Aslam Callea also attended the meeting.

During the meeting, Wapda Chief briefed the members of the ADB delegation about the role Wapda has been playing in the socio-economic development of the country. He traced the history and background of water and power development projects in Pakistan with special reference to the accomplishment of the Indus Basin Projects, particularly Tarbela and Mangla dams.

Referring to the construction of Ghazi Barotha Hydro Power Project, Shamsul Mulk apprised ADB delegation of funding and financing position of this big project which would produce 1450 MW power on its completion.
