CALCUTTA, (India): Mother Teresa of Calcutta celebrated her 85th birthday on Saturday with prayers among the poor people of the city she has made her own.

Personal messages from world leaders flooded into the Missionaries of Charity order she founded in 1950.

Mother Teresa greeted children from the slums of Calcutta who had come to wish her "Happy birthday".

Later she opened a new building at a centre for children and the mentally disabled on the outskirts of the city.-Reuter
