Govt committed

to provide basic

amenities to rural

areas: Saroop

LAHORE: The Punjab Governor, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Raja Saroop Khan, has said that the government is committed to provide basic amenities of life to the people of rural areas at their doorsteps, as no country can progress without providing necessary amenities to its people.

According to a handout, he was addressing a big public gathering at a village near Okara on Saturday. Member National Assembly, Rao Sikandar Iqbal was also present on the occasion.

The governor said that elected representatives ought to work very hard for the uplift of their areas, as it is their foremost duty to serve the people of their constituency. The governor said that it is the considered policy of the present government to bring the people of less developed areas at par with the developed ones, by providing them roads, health units, schools and modern means of communication. He said it is need of the hour to resist the trend of migration to cities from the rural areas, which results in many complications. He said the present government is paying special attention to the education sector, as without literacy no country can be called progressive or civilized. He announced the upgradation of Government Boys High School of Chak No. 40/3-R. The governor assured that many more developmental work will be taken up in all areas of the province, as the present government is dedicated and sincere towards the masses. Rao Sikandar Iqbal, MNA, presented the address of welcome to the governor in which he pointed out various problems facing the area.

Earlier, the governor reviewed the development work in District Okara and inaugurate few development schemes.

He laid the foundation stone of Iqbal Hall of Government High School Chak No. 40/3-R and inaugurated water supply scheme for the area. The governor also performed opening ceremony of a digital exchange for the chak, besides performing the inaugural ceremony of Benazir Central Avenue Road in Okara city.

On arrival at the helipad in District Okara, the governor was warmly welcomed by the people of the area. Welcoming banners were displayed and roads were decorated with the national flags.-APP
