Iraq attacks on
Kurdish village
ANKARA: Iraqi troops, armed with 57mm cannon, attacked a remote Kurdish village in northern Iraq, Turkey's state-controlled Anatolian news agency said on Friday.
Quoting the Voice of Patriotic Kurdistan radio, Anatolian said three people were wounded in the assault on Chamchamal on Thursday morning. It gave no other details.
Ankara-based officials of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan, which controls the radio station, could not immediately confirm the report. Turkish foreign ministry officials were unavailable for comment.
Iraqi troops and Kurdish forces have faced off in northern Iraq since 1991, when US led allies declared a "safe zone" in the region to protect Iraqi Kurds from Baghdad.-Reuter
