NEW YORK: Commercial and industrial loans at the eight major New York banks, excluding acceptances, fell $1.639 billion to $40.730 billion in the week ended August 16, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York said.

Including acceptances, loans fell $1.735 billion to $40.989 billion.

Commercial paper outstanding nationally rose $667 million to $651.415 billion.-Reuter
