Anti-state elements

cannot hold Karachiites

hostage for long: Azfar

KARACHI: Sindh Governor Kamal Azfar has said that a small group of anti-state elements could not hold hostage the peace loving and patriotic Karachiites for long.

He was addressing the "Sindh Governor Outstanding Performance Award", held under the aegis of Karachi (South) District Administration here on Friday at Trade and Finance Centre.

The Governor said it is high time that masses should not simply think of their rights but realise their responsibility towards the country, serving it with dedication and sincerity.

"We have to get rid of the menace of nepotism and ethnicity and making merit the only criteria ultimately enabling the nation to be among the developed community of states", the governor said.

He appreciated the Deputy Commissioner, Karachi South, Arif Elahi and the Award Committee for making impartial selection of recipients who actually stood outstanding in their respective fields thus entitled of the award.

Kamal Azfar also commended the officials who laid down their lives for the restoration of law and order in Karachi and urged the nation to follow the examples set by them.

On the occasion posthmous awards were given to Inspector Gul Taj Shaheed, ASI Zulfiqar Shaheed and SDM Mohammad Nawaz Khusk Shaheed.

Referring to the recent sports activities in city, he said Camel Race and Mule Cart Race, a traditional and distinct feature of city were revived helping in restoring the confidence of citizens. The Governor also announced a grant of Rs 50,000 for the promotion of sports activities in Karachi.-APP
