closes higher

CHICAGO: CBOT wheat futures closed higher after a choppy day with fund buying a late bullish influence, traders said.

Rosenthal Collins and LIT America each bought roughly 500,000 bushels of December near the close. That action boosted wheat to the day's highs in late dealings.

Volume was extremely thin with traders continuing to focus on a possible hike soon in export demand.

There were rumors early this week that several countries could be in the market over the next couple of weeks for up to three million tonnes of wheat.

There was little other feature and trading was very quiet.

Wheat closed 1-1/2 to three cents per bushel higher, with September up three at $4.38-1/4. -Reuter
