'Attempt to sabotage

power supply

system foiled'

KARACHI: An attempt to sabotage power supply system in the city was foiled on Thursday noon by KESC engineers and workers when some Altaf Group supporters broke the 132 KV Landhi to Gizri transmission line conductors of tower number 44 and 45 near Korangi five-and-a-half by sniper firing.

This was stated by a spokesman of the Karachi Electric Supply Corporation (KESC) on Thursday evening.

He said that as a result the power supply fed from Korangi Town, Korangi West, Gizri, Clifton, Baluch Colony, Old Town and Queens Road grid stations was disrupted for about half an hour from 12.30 p.m.

The KESC spokesman said that the power supply to the affected areas was restored through alternate transmission line circuits laid under fifth ADB power project for rehabilitation of transmission and distribution system which is nearing completion.

He said the repair of broken conductors was immediately started and the power supply of the affected transmission line circuits was normalized by six p.m.

The KESC spokesman said that due to some technical problems KESC resorted to 50 MW loadshedding in Korangi Industrial area, Korangi Town, Defence, Gizri, Clifton, PECHS, Jacoblines, Elander Road and Queens Road areas in day-time for two-hours in rotation.

Loadshedding was also carried out in evening hours in industrial areas, the spokesman added.-APP
