NO SHORTAGE
There is no shortage of sugar anywhere in the province as more than sufficient quantity of sugar is available for the consumers.
This was said in a high level meeting presided over by the Chief Secretary Punjab, Javed Ahmad Qureshi, and attended by Secretary Home, Secretary Food, Additional Director General, FIA, Managing Director Utility Stores Corporation, Commissioner Lahore Division besides a representative of Sugar Mills Association, S. Muhammad Bhatti here on Thursday.
The meeting was informed that the supply of sugar in open market which was temporarily interrupted due to sealing of the stock of sugar mills by FIA will resume within a day or two, as the stock is being released immediately. Moreover, sugar mills and stockists will resume supply of sugar in open market from Firday.
The meeting was further informed that according to agreement, the sugar mills will supply 20,000 tons to Utility Stores Corporation at the rate of Rs. 12.50 per Kg, which will be sold at the Utility Stores at Rs. 13.50 per kg.
It was also decided in the meeting that sufficient quantity of sugar will be supplied by Utility Stores Corporation to be sold in Jumma Bazars from Friday at the rate of Rs. 13.50 per kilogram.
