KESC undertakes

8th 132kv double

circuit network

rehabilitation

KARACHI: Karachi Electric Supply Corporation has completed the rehabilitation of seventh 220/132 KV transmission lines under 5th ADB Project at a cost of Rs.1000 million, a KESC spokesman said on Wednesday.

KESC was now undertaking rehabilitation of eighth 132 KV double-circuit transmission line from Korangi Thermal Power Station to Queens Road Grid Station.

This transmission line, the spokesman pointed out, is to be rehabilitated into 200 KV to bring 400 MW power from Korangi and Bin Qasim Thermal Power Stations through Karachi West Grid Station which is also being upgraded to 220 KV.

The 132 KV Korangi Thermal Power Station to Queens Road transmission line circuit had tripped a number of times in 1994-95 plunging major parts of District South into the darkness. Besides consumers of these areas frequently faced low voltage, breakdowns and loadshedding.

According to the spokesman the major rehabilitation of this transmission line was originally planned from November this year. But keeping in view the problems of power consumers, the work was initiated three months ahead of schedule to complete it by the end of December 1995.

The spokesman clarified that KESC has made all possible arrangements to feed to city's southern parts during shut down of 132 KV KTPS-Queens Road Transmission Line of both the circuits through laying of alternate circuit from Korangi West Grid Station to Korangi South Grid Station.

He made it clear that there will be no loadshedding due to rehabilitation of these transmission lines as was reported in a section of the Press.-APP
