HONG KONG: Gold recovered slightly from New York's lower finish in narrow trading, dealers said.

"Trading was quiet today and volume was tiny. The price stayed within a 60 US cent range all day," a senior dealer said. "The downside support is at the US$382 level, but the market is still not really interested following the drop in the silver price.

Gold ended at US$383.10/60 vs New York's US$382.90/383.40 close and the local open of US$ 383.00/50. "I think gold is likely to keep a range of US$ 382-385 in the short term," a dealer said. Local gold ended HK$ 6 off at HK$ 3,536 a tael.-Reuter
