Afridi's
bail
cancelled
KARACHI: The Sindh High Court on Sunday cancelled the bail of accused Khalid Khan Afridi earlier granted to him by the Additional District and Session Judge, Karachi West, in a drug smuggling case.
The accused, Khalid was arrested by the personnel of Anti-Narcotics Force on January 20, 1994 near Gul Bai round-about from Mauripur Road, District West, Karachi, travelling in a car and record quantity of 40 kg heroin was recovered from the car trunk.
Later, FIR No 2/94 was registered against him by Police Station ANF-1 Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Karachi and he was charge-sheeted in the court of the District and Session Judge, Karachi West.
The trial court comprising Syed Ali Ashraf Shah granted him concession of bail in the sum of Rs 4 lakh. Thereafter, in March 1995, the prosecution agency filed a plea for his bail cancellation in the High Court of Sindh.
Representing the State, Special Public Prosecutor Maula Bux Bhatti contended that the accused was a death merchant and seller of poison and came under the definition of dangerous and hardened criminals.
He said that in order to destroy the case of the prosecution the accused is constantly threatening personnel of prosecuting agencies. This can be judged by the fact that the accused is also being tried under the charge of killing one of the investigation officers of the prosecuting agency.
The SSP stated that the trial court had fallen into error while granting bail to accused as a record quantity of 40 kgs of white heroin powder was duly recovered from the possession of the accused further the accused is regularly absconding from the court.
The learned single bench comprising Mr Justice Agha Rafiq Ahmed Khan after hearing the SSP cancelled the bail surety of the accused Khalid Khan Afridi.
