Opposition's Inamullah Khan Niazi and Provincial Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ch. Mohammad Farooq were involved in some discussion over the privilege motion regarding misbehaviour and abusive language used by a police official during PP-74 Toba Tek Singh bye-election in July.
The mover had used quite hostile language to the extent of calling the police official "dog" and the law minister repteadly pointed out that it did not behove an MPA to use such abusive language against police official or anyone else. He said that the police official would be punished for alleged misbehaviour but it was rather inhuman and contrary to all religious norms even to call a Syed Zada a dog.
Niazi immediately went on high pitch to charge that the government used police for political purposes and the poor minister was not aware as to what was happening in police stations, how people were tortured and abused there.
The minister said that he would not have said all that but for the abusive language used by the mover.
Afterwards, the privilege motion was admitted and referred to the privileges committee for report in two months.
Corruption rampant in the society was highlighted for a while when opposition member from Gujranwala S.A. Hameed sought to move an adjournment motion regarding corruption in the execution of buildings and other construction works.
Provincial communication and works minister from Bhakkar said Akbar Khan said that corruption was prevalent every where but assured that the government was determined to eliminate this menace.
The chair observed that the purpose has been fully served by highlighting the corruption and ruled the motion out of order.
The opposition walked out twice for short periods to register their protest for not being allowed to move a resolution against the recent increase in power tariff and mass scale termination of journalists by the APP management.
Members of the press gallery, covering the proceedings, staged a token walk out in protest against the APP employees' termination and this point was raised in the house and resultantly the opposition also walked out to express solidarity with the journalists community.
Some applications for leave from opposition leader Mian Shahbaz Sharif, who was in London since June last year for treatment of backbone, and acting leader Ch Pervaiz Elahi who was also in London besides Raja Ashfaq Sarwar who is in USA for medical treatment evoked some interest.
