Floods claim 73

lives in Morocco

RABAT: Flash floods in the region of Marrakesh early on Friday have killed 73 people, the Moroccan interior ministry said.

Violent storms overnight triggered the floods which carried away homes and livestock.

Sources close to aid workers in the area said there were fears the death toll may go higher.

Help has been sent by the government and local authorities to the area. Local people said it was the worst catastrophe in the region for more than 50 years.-AP
