ISLAMABAD: The head of government team for talks on Karachi, N D Khan, expressed hope on Tuesday evening that in the wake of the letter from his team to Ajmal Dehlavi the date for the resumption of talks would be decided soon.

Speaking at a press conference here, N D KHan said, the letter from government team had been faxed to Ajmal Dehlavi, the leader of Altaf Group team, at 1800 hours and the same had been acknowledged by him.

"After the letter, he said, I think the process of talks will soon be restored as there is no reason left to continue the suspension in the negotiations."

He said the government desired to restore lasting peace in Karachi and wants to see the activities of life to be carried on undisturbed. The government wished to resolve the political questions politically, he emphasized.

Khan said the talks process "is always two way". The Altaf Group should ensure peace in Karachi, condemn terrorism and dissociate itself from the terrorists. After the complete restoration of peace in Karachi, which was the first point of the talks agenda, the political issues could be addressed with facility afterwards.

"If peace in Karachi remains undisturbed for three months, I assure that the political issues of the agenda could be tackled in a week."
