Journalist dies of

heart failure

ISLAMABAD: Mukhtar Hassan (50), an eminent journalist, died in early hours on Tuesday morning in Lahore because of heart failure.

Mukhtar Hassan, a former Editor of the Afghan Press Agency (APA), rendered meritorious services in the field of journalism through his hard work, dedication and devotion. He was a very daring journalist having a lot of insight and imagination.

During the Afghan war, Mukhtar Hassan gained international prominence when he was detained in the Kabul jail for 99 days and was released only due to extreme pressure from Pakistan, UN and international press organisations.
