Azfar opens
UBL sports
complex
KARACHI: Governor Sindh Kamaluddin Azfar has called for the promotion of sporting activities and the sportsman spirit among the people.
Speaking as chief guest on the inauguration of UBL Sports Complex here on Monday, the Governor lauded the efforts of United Bank for promoting sports alongwith banking.
He inaugurated the UBL Sports Complex by unveiling a plaque and declaring an exhibition cricket match between PIA-XI and All Banks-XI teams open.
In his welcome address the UBL President Azizullah Memon said, cricket stadium of the complex has been named "Muhammad Salim Malik Cricket Stadium", after the founder of UBL Sports Division and former President of the Bank, late Muhammad Salim Malik.
Memon said late Malik was a keen lover of sports particularly cricket, and his sports promoting efforts can never be forgotten. On the occasion, the UBL President also requested the Governor for inauguration of the hockey stadium in the complex, for which astro-turf has already been brought, and will be fitted soon.
Romancing the full cricket kit, Governor Kamaluddin Azfar has bowled an over, which was played by the managing director of PIA, Air Vice Marshal Farooq Umar and Azizullah Memon.
On the occasion AVM Farooq Umar also presented the promotion letter from Group-5 to Group-6 to PIA-XI skipper Moin Khan.
The incharge of UBL Sports Division, Irfan Mirza informed that the complex has been built on an area of 17 acres, and has a lush green cricket ground, hockey ground, two tennis courts, one basketball court, a swimming pool and an indoor gymnasium. Around Rs 50 million have already been spend on the project, which is rapidly reaching the completion stage.-APP
