KARACHI: A spokesman of Sindh Coal Authority (SCA) has contradicted a news item published in a section of the press not Business Recorder regarding the proposal for abolition and winding up of Lakhra Coal Development Company Limited (LCDC) by the Authority.

The spokesman said on Sunday that SCA has never suggested to abolish or wind up LCDC. Similarly, he said the statement that 32,000 acres were taken back from the said company and alloted to private sector by the Director Mineral Development Sindh, was also not correct.

Regarding the merger of LCDC with SCA, he said that the government has to take this decision in the larger interest of Lakhra coal development and added the news item was not reported correctly.

The spokesman said SCA and very keen to see the development of mechanised Lakhra coal mines on sustainable basis as early as possible and cannot conceive any proposal which adversly affects the coal development initiatives and efforts in Sindh.-APP
