Indus in high

flood at Kotri,

to rise further

in next 24 hours

HYDERABAD: Indus River is flowing in very high flood at Kotri Barrage as the water level has crossed seven lakh cusecs. At Guddu and Sukkur Barrages the water level is receding.

According to the Flood Control Centre Jamshoro the water level at Kotri Barrage during the last 24 hours has further increased by 22,081 cusecs up-stream and 22,500 cusecs down-stream. The water gauge at Kotri was recorded at 22.9 while at Dadu-Moro Bridge there has been no change in the water Gauge which stood at 131.3.

At Guddu Barrage the total discharge of water was recorded at 717,475 cusecs up-stream and 704,630 cusecs down-stream, a decrease of 50,134 cusecs and 55,112 and will gradually fall during next 24 hours.

At Sukkur Barrage the up-stream and down-stream decrease was recorded at 10,140 cusecs and 10,920 cusecs respectively during the same period whereas the total discharge was recorded at 795,200 cusecs up-stream and 748,100 cusecs down-stream.

Although all the protective bunds from Kotri to Thatta are intact, but the pressure is mounting because of strong winds.

Some erosion was reported in Bhanot, Khyber, Seekhat and Bao Dero protective bunds but the danger was averted as the Irrigation staff moved and plugged the erosion by pitching stones and sand bags.

Sindh Minister for Food Moshin Shah Bukhari also visited the bunds and supervised the stone pitching work. He directed the Irrigation staff to remain extra vigilant as the peak flood as about to hit the protective bunds during the next 12 hours.

PPI adds: Manchar Lake level recorded at 06.00 hours on Sunday 117.20 and was above danger level it will further rise nominally during the next 24 hours.

LAHORE: In Punjab River Ravi was in high flood at Sidhnai with a discharge of 693,000 cusecs while its water level was expected to rise during the next 24 hours all other rivers in Punjab were in normal flow.

Meanwhile, the local Met Office was forecast isolated light shower over lower Sindh and Punjab.

According to the department, the southern monsoon incursion from Bay of Bengal has completely ceased, resulting in the temporary break in the monsoon activity while the seasonal low continues to be well marked, a small scale cyclonic circulation exists over lower Sindh and South East Balochistan.
