TEL AVIV: The Gaza Strip will remain sealed off from Israel until dawn on Monday, military officials said on Sunday, thereby extending the security measure for a fifth day.

The closure of checkpoints between the Gaza Strip and Israel was imposed at 1 a.m. Thursday (2200 GMT Wednesday) to try to prevent attacks from Palestinian militants if an accord was signed to spread autonomy over the West Bank.

Israel and the PLO reached a series of accords on major sticking points overnight Thursday but failed to reach an overall deal and negotiations are to continue.-AFP
