Four hurt in Empire
State mishap
NEW YORK: Four tourists were injured after an elevator in New York City's Empire State Building sped upwards out of control and rammed the ceiling of the elevator shaft, police said on Sunday.
The tourists were riding to the building's observation deck when the elevator's safety device failed on Saturday.
"The elevator kept travelling up at a high rate of speed, passed the the 80th floor and hit the ceiling of the elevator shaft," said a police spokeswoman.
The landmark 102-story building, one of New York's most popular attractions, is visited by thousands of tourists a day.-Reuter
