Motorway project
Daewoo signs
MOU to build 2
abandoned lanes
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Daewoo Corporation of Korea, which is constructing the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway, has signed a memorandum of understanding ((MOU) with the Government of Pakistan, to construct the two lanes, which were abandoned earlier.
The MOU was signed last weekend under which Daewoo would additionally construct 17 kilometres road, to put traffic from Islamabad on to the motorway.
A high level team of Daewoo Corporation is arriving in Lahore within a couple of days to settle the additional cost and other details of the project, which is already delayed by at least two years, due to lack of funds and heavy floods of 1992, and current rains.
The National Highway Authority (NHA) has not given the Corporation any grace period.
The Daewoo Corporation has sent the designs of the six lane motorway, which was converted into a four-lane project by Moeen Qureshi government in a bid to save Rs. three billion.
