claims 125 lives

in Nepal

KATHMANDU: Gastroenteritis has so far claimed 125 lives this year in Achham district, 395 kilometres far west of here, the official RSS news agency reported Saturday.

"The deaths caused by gastroenteritis occured in a total of 18 different village development committees of Achham district," the RSS said.

"Necessary medicine, medical teams and local health education teams have been sent to the affected areas," it said.

Gastroenteritis is caused by drinking untreated or dirty water and eating unhygienic and stale food.-AFP
