SUKKUR: Sindh Governor Kamaluddin Azfar on Friday visited the under construction new campus of Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur, being built at Shadi Shahid, about 20 km from here.

Sindh Governor, who arrived by his Cessna aircraft, alongwith Federal Education Minister Syed Khurshid Ahmed Shah, Sindh CM's Advisor for Finance Syed Asad Ali Shah and President PPP Sindh Syed Qaim ALi Shah.

Vice-Chancellor Shah Abdul Latif University, Prof. Abdul Hamid Memon, Commissioner Sukkur Nisar Ahmed Siddiqui and Deputy Commissioner Khairpur Abdul Qadir Manghi, who gave the main briefing about the under construction new campus, informed the Governor that the Administration Block had already been completed. Some other blocks were nearing completion, however, it was generally noticed that the soil was not strong enough to bear the weight of the building, as a result of which several cracks in the newly laid construction were appearing. It was stated on the occasion that soil testing of the land had also been carried out earlier and its results had been known to the authorities.

The Governor was briefed with the help of charts about the proposed construction work. It was generally felt that cracks in the newly constructed block would pose a serious problem in future and when the main building of the Varsity would be complete it would not be able to bear the test ot time.

Governor specially asked Commissioner Sukkur and Vice-Chancellor if any other alternate piece of land was available in the vicinity of the Varsity, so that it may be considered from the safety point of view.

The Governor later visited the Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur on the National Highway and went round all its blocks. Vice-Chancellor and Commissioner Sukkur briefed the Governor who is also the Chancellor of Shah Abdul Latif University, about the educational record of the Varsity.-APP
