Furukawa to cut H1 copper, gold output in 03/04

TOKYO: Japan's Furukawa Co Ltd said on Monday it planned to cut copper, gold and silver output in the first half of the business year to next March.

The smelter and maker of industrial machinery said it aimed to produce 44,100 tonnes of copper in April-September, down from 46,699 tonnes a year earlier and 45,800 tonnes in the second half of 2002/03.

Furukawa forecast first-half gold output at 1,390 tonnes, down from 1,605 tonnes a year earlier. It said it would cut silver production by almost half to 10,980 tonnes.-Reuters
