Investment in human resources raises productivity, says LCCI chief
RECORDER REPORT
LAHORE: Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) President Ilyas M. Chaudhry said on Monday that Pakistan has been unable to mobilise, and channelise its human resource base in a proper way.
He was addressing a seminar "Productivity Improvement Through Kaizen Activities" organized by the LCCI in collaboration with the Employer's Federation of Pakistan and the Nikkeiren International Cooperation Centre (NICC), Japan.
He said the experiences of the developed world have proved that 'satisfied labour' gives boost to productivity and helps improve services.
Investment in human resources always increases profitability, he said and added that exploitative arrangements and job dissatisfaction cast a negative impact on productivity.
Ilyas said that labour should not be treated mere a factor of production like land or capital. "While dealing with the labour-related issues one should always keep in mind the human aspect," he added.
The efficient coordination of all other factors of production is possible only when a committed and efficient management handles them.
"The concept of Kaizen emphasized 'change for the better' or 'continuous improvement', a new concept in management system for our part of the world as far as its implementation is concerned. Its philosophy revolves around commitment of the management and involvement of the team as a whole in improving activities by reducing wastes and finding wasteful process of production and thus improving the productivity. The concept also involves feedback action to continuously improve quality, the cost and delivery of products and services, he concluded.
Employers Federation of Pakistan President A. W. Tabani elaborated the concept of globalisation and mentioned about the pros and cons of productivity in this era of competitiveness. He also stressed the need for development of human resource.
Earlier, NICC representative Numora briefed the participants of the seminar about Kaizan activity.
