Emirates Airlines sponsors Pakistan Derby 2000

LAHORE: Emirates Airlines will be the exclusive sponsor of Pakistan Derby 2000, which will be held at the Lahore Race Club on March 12.

This was announced by Area Manager of Emirates Pakistan Shareef A. Raheem while addressing a press conference here on Saturday.

He said that Pakistan Derby, which has been held since 1947, is the most prestigious race in Pakistan, with prize money of Rs 675,000. The owner of the winning horse stands to win Rs 500,000.

This event is organised by the Pakistan Jockey Club, with the support of Condor Sports. Shareef said that Emirates Airlines is pleased to be the exclusive sponsor of Pakistan Derby 2000. This race adds to Emirates list of prestigious equestrian events that it sponsors across the world.

Emirates is also the sole title sponsor of $6 million Dubai World Cup, the world's richest horse race, which runs on March 25. The Dubai World Cup is one of the highlights of the annual Dubai Shopping Festival, and, doubtless, the most extravagant.

He pointed out that Emirates commenced operations to Pakistan in its inaugural year- 1985, when Karachi was one of the first three destinations served by the Airlines from Dubai. Today, Emirates serves four cities in Pakistan.
