restoration

RECORDER REPORT

FAISALABAD: Competent and qualified senior managers have to play a vital role for the restoration of financial, commercial, administrative and technical viability of Wapda, said Faisalabad Electricity Supply Company (Fesco) Chief Executive Brig. Mohammad Aslam Khan.

Briefing the participants of the 27th senior management course of the Wapda Staff College Islamabad here on Friday, he said Wapda is one of the most important organisation of the country playing a major role in national development. However, the previous weak and incompetent management played havoc with this organisation by shattering it economically as well as administratively.

He further said management, corruption and inefficiency were the main factors inflicting major loss on Wapda and forcing army to take it over to it save from total collapse.

Explaining his experience as Fesco CE, he said proper time management is of prime importance for restoration of economic viability of any mega organisation. "We can do miracles through in time management of the affairs even with meagre financial resources," he said and added that open-door policy and motivation of staff also contribute substantially to bring about qualitative as well as quantitative improvement in Wapda working, he said also a strong union is one of the by-product of weak management with a host of other administrative ills. He said 30 percent union leaders were getting their salaries with unlimited privileges without doing any thing for the workers or Wapda.

However, he said open Kutcheries and meetings with staff not only give first-hand information about the organisation but also help in resolving genuine workers' problems without any bureaucratic bottlenecks or exploitation.

Explaining the motivational aspect of prudent management, he said it can even make clumsy and lethargic employees as most responsible, efficient and competent worker.

Underlining the importance of consumer's satisfaction, the Brig. said it plays a key role in maintaining the viability of any commercial organisation.

Fesco chief also explained in details the organisational set-up and its achievement gained during last year. He said line losses have been curtailed up to 11.3 percent, with recovery of maximum arrears. Brig. Aslam further said sincere endeavors have also been made to increase the sale of surplus electricity.

Farmers and industrialists have been particularly convinced to switch over to Fesco instead of depending on costly electricity generated privately.
