Balochistan collects

record Rs 11,055m

revenue in 7 months

LAILA A ALI

QUETTA: Balochistan government revenue receipts collection has touched a record mark of Rs 11,055.345 million in a short span of seven months from (July 1999, to January 2000) for the current financial year 1999-2000.

Official sources confirmed here on Friday that these included federal receipts reimbursement of Rs 10,505.839 million and provincial receipts of Rs 549.506 million.

Rapid rise in revenue receipts collection is attributed to methodical and scientific drive launched by the government.

Federal monthly receipts flow by the deposed political government started with Rs 786.482 million in July '99, which continued with slow pace till September '99. But in October '99, after the induction of the present government, federal monthly receipts reimbursement from Islamabad to Quetta rapidly rose to Rs 1,258.097 million, at the end of the same month.

In November '99, federal receipts monthly reimbursement shot to Rs 1,778.106 million, in December '99, it further rose to Rs 1,973.222 million from Rs 1,778.106 million in November '99. But in January 2000, it, however, dropped to Rs 1,111.255 million, due to debt servicing deduction and adjustment of octroi/Zila tax.

The reimbursement of Rs 10,505.839 million supplemented by the provincial receipt collection of Rs 549.506 million (from July '99 to January 2000) firmed up Balochistan financial base at Rs 11,055.345 million to meet development and non-development expenditure of Rs 8,128.883 million for the current financial year 1999-2000. Of the total expenditure, Rs 7,523.745 million have been spent on non-development and remaining Rs 605.138 million on development schemes.

Under political government, provincial revenue receipt collection machinery started monthly collection with Rs 64.600 million in July '99, which went down to Rs 46.645 million in August '99, and to Rs 35.124 million in September '99. But soon after the military coup in October '99, provincial receipt collection went up to Rs 49.424 million in October '99, Rs 94.131 million in November '99, Rs 111.670 million in December and to Rs 147.912 million in January 2000.

Figures of provincial receipt for February 2000, are yet to be confirmed.

Official sources believed that in the remaining five months of the current financial year 1999-2000, federal monthly receipt/re-imbursement would be well received because of sympathetic, practical and realistic approach of the Chief Executive Gen. Pervez Musharraf to Balochistan and non-political governor Justice Amirul Mulk(R).
