KARACHI: The Consumer Protection Council (CPC) has pointed out an anomaly in the sales tax being unjustly charged from the gas consumers.

According to the council, Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has been charging 15 percent sales tax on meter rent. The meters are the property of SSGC and are not sold to consumers, then why is sales tax is being charged on the rent? the council asked. As a matter of principle this is wrong, regardless of the small amount involved.

The council has lodged strong protest at this action requested SSGC to refrain from imposing sales tax on meter rent.

The council held a meeting with the Additional Commissioner-II for price control of fruits also. Representative of wholesale fruit merchants and retailers were also present there.

It was resolved that reasonable profit margin would be kept in mind while making a formula for daily price fixation of fruit. All retailers of fruit would display prices on each single fruit, the council said.
